FileZilla tutorial for Mac

This tutorial will help you upload your web site files to your hosting account on the server.

This tutorial is for Mac-users with Intel processors in their computers that have downloaded FileZilla. Filezilla is a free ftp program for any computer operating system.

Even if you do not have Intel processor, the procedure is similar, so just use common sence and you will find out how to upload files to the server.

Set up your FileZilla (Mac OS X 10.5+)

Step 1: Download and Install FileZilla
1.1 Download FileZilla then install it to your computer
• Download the version that matchs your system type (Intel , PowerPC G4)
• When you click the link to download the FileZilla setup file, choose to Run the file instead of Save

Step 2: Configure FTP Settings
2.1 Enter the following information:
• Host: yourdomain.tld (without the "www.")
• Username: [your FTP username]
• Password: [your FTP password]
• Port: [leave this field blank]

2.2 Click Quickconnect.
If you see "Status: Directory listing successful" congratulations, you're connected to your website via FTP!

Step 3: Save FTP Settings
3.1 Click the File menu.
3.2 Click "Copy current connection to Site Manager..."
3.3 Type a name for this connection
3.4 Click OK

Step 4: Optional
This setting adjustment may help FileZilla maintain its connection to your website's FTP server.

4.1 Click the FileZilla menu.
4.2 Click "Preferences..."
4.3 On the left pane click Transfers
4.4 On the right change "Timeout in seconds:" to 9999
Now that FileZilla is installed and configured you can upload files to your hosting accound. Read the FileZilla documentation for more information

Step 5: Upload files with FileZilla
On the left side you will find files on your mac and on the right side you will find files on the hosting account.

Make the Title Filename large enough on both sides (expand the window if needed), so you are sure which files / folders you are looking at and clicking.

On the right side open the public_html by clicking or double-clicking on it
...
After that you may find the folder and files on your left side that you want to upload.

When you found one or more files (shift to select more than one file) then drag the file(s) from your computer on the left and drop them to your hosting account on the right. You will see how the transfer takes place.

You may choose to have a browser window open to your site at the same time as files are transferred and make sure that there is no cache in your browsers memory, so that it is the latest update of your site that you look at and not some old cache (memory of previous site-versions) you look at.

When you have updated / uploaded what you want just close the program.

Remember: You need to promote your site in order for the world to find your web site! This does not happen automatically.
